Everyone knows and loves that world famous, high class entertainer Tony Bennett. His singing style, a throwback to the 1940s swing style has enchanted millions of fans across the globe and his Sinatra influences (which were finally cemented when the two legends met) ring crystal clear to this day.
Although many of his fans would be aware of his numerous paintings, which are often just as high quality as his songs, they would be surprised to learn that Bennett started to learn how to paint before learning how to sing. Growing up under a large amount of hardship in the Great Depression, Tony took to painting when he was only 8 years old.
Interestingly, Bennett originally intended to put a focus on his painting skills rather than his musical talent, but the advice of a teacher at the High School of Industrial Arts made him takes both talents into consideration. With the support of his extended family, (Bennett’s father passed away when he was 10 and his mother was often busy with raising her 3 other children), Bennett managed to hewn his skills in songs as well.
To this day, Bennett has continued his skills in the art world, often spending his spare time by doing portraits, paintings or sketches at his art studio in New York which is located close to his home. Sometimes, he even does his artwork while touring which is sure to be a treat for fans of the man.
