The art world has always been mesmerized by the Post-Impressionist Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh. Before his untimely death at age 37, he painted and drew over 2,000 works and today they are considered priceless.

Getting ready to be on display at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is Van Gogh’s “Bedroom in Arles.." The painting is a loan directly from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and is what many consider one of Van Gogh’s best depicting his mood and style.

“Bedroom in Arles" was a title given to each of three similar paintings with the original produced in 1888. The first version sits in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. However, it was damaged in a flood while the artist was in the hospital at Arles, France.

Nearly a year later, two additional copies were created. One is at the Art Institute of Chicago and the other is the one on loan at the DIA.

Much of Van Gogh’s short life was an  unhappy one.  The painting on display  is based on the theme of his bedroom  when living in Arles after his artistic beginnings in Paris. He felt that beauty could be found everywhere even within the simplicity of his room as a symbolism of colors.

The DIA will have this masterpiece on display from February 19–May 28 right next three others that are part of their permanent collection.
