The Chanel 2.55 Handbag

CoCo Chanel 2.55

In the 1920’s CoCo Chanel was tired of having to carry her handbags with her arms. Thus, she decided to design an iconic handbag that allowed her hands to be free.

The straps on the Chanel 2.55 were inspired by soldiers’ bags. When Chanel updated their bags in 1995 the result of the new designed was the 2.55 classic.

Since its introduction, there have been numerous variations of the original design including different color leather and fabric combinations, hardware, straps, and locks such as mademoiselle vs. interlocking CC.

Chanel released an exact reproduction of the original 2.55 in February 2005 in tribute of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the original, the “Reissue 2.55”. The 2.55 is a timeless Chanel piece that when carried exudes class, style, and personifies a true fashionista.
